Jess Jones Review (Spoiler Free)

Jess Jones Review (Spoiler Free)

Where to begin? This show blew me away completely. I had no idea what I was getting into with this show. All I knew about it was the main character’s name is Jessica Jones and it takes place in Hell’s Kitchen, just like Daredevil.

Jessica Jones is the woman I aspire to be. She is the model of a bad girl, scared of no one, and although tough on the outside, leather jacket and all, she tries to save everyone around her, from themselves or from Kilgrave.

The first episodes of Jessica Jones consisted of Jessica doing her job, sleeping, and of course, drinking (Apart from the first episode, that was very shocking). Jessica became a P.I. after something tragic happened to her. What exactly happened to her is revealed in bits until it is fully revealed mid-season. After this big, tragic thing is revealed, the episodes slowly shift into a much darker theme. Jessica is no longer lounging around her apartment but she is now fighting bad guys and running around the city.

Not only does this show portray a great heroine who does the job as good as, or even better than, a male hero, but it portrays a darker side of humanity that has never been touched before in the Marvel universe. Abusive relationships, gore, hard drugs, alcohol, sex, and murder are just some of the factors that make up this dark show. This makes Jessica Jones a model for all women who deal with abusive relationships and sexual assault to look up to.

Despite all the heaviness, this show is overall an enjoyable one, (not for weak stomachs), it has a lot of “Oh Crap!” moments and a lot of other moments that just bring you tears (including me). After you finish the show and take a big deep breath, you take a step back and realize the impact it has on you. This show will definitely impact you one way or another and that is why you should definitely watch it.
