Freshman Year Reflection

Freshman Year Reflection

When I was in 8th grade, I was very conflicted and confused on which high school to go to. Hallahan was an option, but I was really reluctant to come here at first. In fact, I was so reluctant that I didn’t even bother to pay attention and learn what the class colors were, the fascinating history, or even what the blue ribbons represent. Now as I write this and I look back, I think, Wow, I was crazy! Hallahan is truly an amazing school, and any girl who decides not to come here is really missing out.

Freshman Student Council Induction

When I started high school, I told myself I was going to change. I was going to become social, more outgoing, have lots of friends, express myself freely, and actually become a leader. Now that I look back, I definitely accomplished every one of these. I am now a leader, running two clubs and a member of Student Council. I have numerous friends. I am definitely more outgoing and social, not the shy, quiet person I was before. And I am always expressing myself, everyone knows I love Captain America, I’m Italian, and a headstrong feminist. I am so thankful to Hallahan, because of this school, the community, and the sisterhood, I am a better person.

I now understand the true meaning of what it means to be in a community, nonetheless, a sisterhood. I also now understand the value of my Catholic education and why I should work so hard, every single day. And finally, I understand that it is okay to be myself and not to let anybody put me down. I am a strong, independent young woman who wants to change the world and make it a better place, and I will let no one get in my way.

So now, as we approach the end of the school year and the weather gets warmer. I get a little teary eyed thinking how fast these four years are gonna go and how much I’m going to miss this school and how all these seniors aren’t gonna be here anymore, and all my friends who are juniors are gonna be seniors next year. It makes me kinda scared but so excited for the future and for everything to come. I will lace the blue into my traditional saddle shoes, sew my sparkly new emblem on and continue to grow, as a student, as a person.
